Abstract: Sills or blocks are used in a stilling basin in order to force a hydraulic jump when the downstream depth is lower than the sequent depth for a classical hydraulic jump. Regarding the forced jump by a vertical sill, the flow conditions over the sill and the sequent depth ratio were investigated by Rand (1965), Ohtsu (1981), and Hager and Li (1992). The drag on the vertical sill was discussed by Rajaratnam (1964) Rajaratnam and Murahari 1971) Narayanan and Schizas 1980) and Ohtsu et al. (1991).
