Analysis of the Effect of Grid Layout on the Simple Algorithm

Abstract: In this paper, the error amplification matrices have been developed for the SIMPLE algorithm formulated on staggered and collocated grids by Fourier decomposition. The effect of grid layouts on the convergence properties of SIMPLE algorithm is studied from the point view of error damping. The results indicate that the SIMPLE algorithm formulated on a collocated grid show basically identical performance to that of staggered grid in terms of convergence condition and convergence rate. Furthermore, the collocated layout is suggested for multi-grid application due to its better high frequency error damping rate.
