IAHR Hosts Session on Education and Professional Development Highlighting The Needs of Water Professionals in a Changing Environment and Society
In the framework of the 41st IAHR World Congress, IAHR held a dedicated session on education and professional development, bringing together members of the IAHR Label Committee and experts in water education from around the world. The session focused on the evolving needs of water professionals in the face of global challenges and celebrated excellence in academic programs that meet the highest standards of training.
A key moment of the session was the presentation of IAHR Label certificates to two distinguished institutions:
The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, in recognition of its Master of Engineering Science programme “Water Engineering: Catchments to Coast” and its Bachelor programme of "Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering".
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain, for its Master of Science in Water Engineering, which recently joined the growing list of IAHR-labelled programmes in Europe.
The IAHR Label for Water Training and Education, developed in collaboration with UNESCO-IHP, serves as a global benchmark for quality in water-related education and training. It ensures that programmes align with current professional demands and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation.
The session featured contributions from Philippe Gourbesville, Ioana Popescu, Concepción Marcuello, and other prominent figures who highlighted the importance of international collaboration, regional training centers, and long-term capacity development. Discussions underscored the role of academic programs in equipping future professionals to address increasingly complex water challenges.
