Course Introduction
This course is organised jointly with the China Three Gorges University (CTGU) under the new IAHR Training Courses Series. The "Advanced Hydraulic Engineering (AHE)" course is an international 14-day study program designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills for students in civil and hydraulic engineering. The course combines theoretical content and field visits to major water conservancy projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam.
The water conservancy engineering discipline of CTGU played a significant role in the construction of the world's largest hydropower project, the Three Gorges Dam - a world-class landmark water conservancy project.
Format
The course is hybrid face-to-face and online.
The face-to-face format includes both in-person lectures and on-site study visits to major water conservancy projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam, where participants gain in-depth technical knowledge and explore the engineering challenges addressed during their construction.
The online format focuses on live-streamed lectures delivered by leading experts, providing remote learners with access to the core academic content of the course, from anywhere in the world.
Videos recordings will be available to watch on demand!
Dates

Online Format
11 - 16 August 2025.
Eligibility Requirements (for the face-to-face format)
Master or doctoral national or international students with a background in hydraulic engineering, civil engineering, environmental science and other related fields of study and practicing engineers who wish to delve deepter into the fundamentals of hydraulic engineering.
Keen interest in water conservancy engineering, willing to learn and share knowledge.
Able to communicate in English.
Programme Highlights
Lectures are delivered by leading experts in hydraulic engineering from around the world, who share both their extensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
The programme covers topics such as hydrology, water resources management, hydraulic engineering design, environmental impact assessment, and digital twin river systems. It places a strong emphasis on integrating theory with practical application.
The programme includes study visits to renowned nearby water conservancy projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam. Participants will gain in-depth technical knowledge of these projects and discuss the engineering challenges that were overcome.
The programme is designed to provide ample opportunities for interaction between teachers and students, as well as peer-to-peer exchange, fostering international collaboration and friendship.
Students who complete the course and pass the assessment will receive a certificate of completion jointly issued by CTGU and IAHR.
