What is the Road to Bari Framework?

The Road to Bari is a strategic framework to respond to the water challenges of our time by providing a global platform for results-oriented exchange amongst peer experts, decision makers, engineers, and solution providers.

Launched by IAHR in 2025, the Road to Bari brings together over 2,000 experts, decision-makers, and city leaders from 50+ cities to collaborate on innovative engineering for sustainable development.

The "Bari Framework" is a results-oriented exchange built on three Action Tracks:

  1. Science, Research, and Innovation: Harnessing the expertise of our 30+ Technical Committees to solve specific engineering challenges.

  2. Technical and Policy Challenges of Cities, Basins and Nations: Connecting decision-makers with the latest research to accelerate SDG6 implementation.

  3. Solutions, Practice and Implementation: The Road to Bari Framework provides a neutral global platform to match the world’s solution providers with the highest priorities of public authorities as well as the latest game-changing research and innovation

The Road to Bari Framework It’s more than just a roadmap — it’s a global movement shaping how we tackle one of the most critical challenges of our time: water in a rapidly changing world.

So, what makes this framework different?

  • It’s continuous, not a one-off event: The Road to Bari is an ongoing process — connecting cities, institutions, and experts to identify real-world water challenges and co-create solutions over time.

  • It’s built on collaboration at scale: From local authorities to global organizations, it fosters peer-to-peer exchange and leverages collective intelligence to address complex water issues.

  • It’s action-oriented: The framework focuses on translating knowledge into practical solutions — from urban water resilience to climate adaptation and digital transformation.

  • It leads to impact: All roads lead to the IAHR World Congress 2027 in Bari — but the real goal goes beyond that: creating lasting partnerships and accelerating change across the global water sector.

At its core, the Road to Bari is about one idea: Turning global challenges into shared solutions through collaboration, innovation, and sustained action.

In a world facing climate uncertainty and growing urban pressure, this isn’t just a framework — it’s a necessary shift in how we think, work, and lead.
