Abstract: For the design of steel-lined pressure tunnels and shafts in anisotropic rock, it is common practice to assume for the computation that the system stands in isotropic medium with the lowest stiffness measured in situ. In this paper, stresses and displacements in the steel liner of a particular steel-lined pressure tunnel are numerically assessed taking into account the anisotropic behavior of the rock mass, for the pseudo-static case. The results are compared with the corresponding isotropic case.
