Abstract: The project Isarplan in the City of Munich shows successfully how it is possible to bring the different aspects for a renaturation of an urban river in line. The project management was in the hands of the Wasserwirtschaftsamt Munchen (local authorities) and the Landeshauptstadt Munchen (City of Munich), who financed the reconstructions together. For the last and most complex part they engaged the Technische Universit? t Munchen with a physical model for hydraulic and morphological investigations, which were headed by Prof. Aufleger from the University of Innsbruck. After 3 years of flood simulations and tons of shoveled sand the optimized geometry fulfilled all requirements. This geometry was implemented in full-scale at the river Isar in Munich and completed in summer 2011 (see Figure 1).
