Abstract: The finite-volume computer code FAST3D has been developed at the Institute for Hydromechanics, University of Karlsruhe. In this code the flow is calculated by solving the fully three dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-ε and k-ω turbulence models. The bed deformation is obtained from an overall mass-balance equation for sediment transport and the bed-load transport is simulated with a non-equilibrium model. In this paper, the computer code with uniform sediment transport model was used to calculate the flow and sediment transport in a S-shaped trapezoidal open channel with two bends and non-cohesive bed-material. The computed results were compared with the measurement data, which have been obtained by Zecha (2001) and Feurich (2002) in the hydraulic laboratory at the Institute of Infrastructure, Innsbruck University. Further, the calculated flow fields were compared also with the formerly investigated results of Feurich and Schoberl (2003) using another 3D-model. A series of numerical experiments was carried out to analyse application capacities of the code for this flow situation.
