Abstract: The Spanish Tous dam-break flow was chosen as a case study application for the “Flood Propagation” area of the IMPACT European project. This catastrophic event resulted, among other damages, in the flooding of the small town of Sumacarcel. This paper presents simulations of the flow using a two-dimensional finite-volume scheme solving the shallowwater equations. The various assumptions made to cope with real data regarding the boundary conditions, the size of the mesh and the representation of the urban area are detailed. Indeed, due to the extent of the valley and to the duration of the flood hydrograph, simplifying options had to be made to obtain results in a reasonable computations time.
