Abstract: In this paper, a two-dimensional numerical model study on the dynamics of ice transport and jamming in curved channel is presented. A numerical model is developed and used to simulate ice transport in an idealized channel bend to demonstrate the process and factors affecting jam development. The model is then applied to simulate the freeze up jams in a meandering reach of the Upper Yellow River in Inner Mongolia, China. The simulated result compares well with the satellite images and field observation.
