Abstract: Modeling a river system at variable resolution can be achieved by nesting a fine resolution model in a coarse resolution model. This paper presents a nesting method for a river ice dynamic model based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. A method for constructing a fine resolution nested model for ice dynamics based on the result of a larger domain model with a coarse resolution is developed. The model DynaRICE is used for the development of the nested model. The method involves the implementation of initial and boundary conditions for both hydrodynamics and ice dynamics to the nested domain using the output from the larger domain.
