Abstract: This study presents a method for estimating local water depth using a space–time image at the corresponding location. The local water depth is estimated by fitting the wave dispersion relation to the frequency–wavenumber spectrum created from the space–time image. The proposed method is applied to a flood event in a river cross-section to evaluate its accuracy by comparing the surveyed cross-sectional profile. The estimated water depths, excluding some abnormal values, are consistent with the measured depth with an error of less than 20%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the method.
