The 9th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS2022) organised by the IAHR Technical Committee on Hydraulic Structures took place in Roorkee, India from 24 to 27 October 2022 . The event was chaired by Prof. Zulfequar Ahmad from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. The event was conducted in hybrid mode.

The Scientific Committee (86 members) was chaired by Dr. Michele Palermo with co-editor support by Sébastien Erpicum (Past Chair of the Committee) and Brian Crookston (Chair of the Committee). The IAHR Hydraulic Structures Leadership Team collaborated strongly with support from the Local Organizing Committee.

All manuscripts have undergone a robust review process. Of originally 115 submitted abstracts, 105 were accepted. Of these, 72 papers were submitted and 60 were accepted. The accepted papers were written by 176 authors from 18 countries and 5 continents. 6 keynote lectures were presented during the symposium including by Hydraulic Structures Committee members Sébastien Erpicum and Fabian Bombardelli as well as former Chair of the Committee Stefano Pagliara.

Papers published in the Proceedings of the 9th IAHR International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures were peer-reviewed (single blind) for technical content through a formal and rigorous process. The proceedings were published at USU with DOI and can be freely downloaded.

The Philip H. Burgi Best Paper Award, which was instituted at ISHS 2018 in Aachen, Germany to honor the first chair of the IAHR Hydraulic Structures Committee was jointly given to:

• Angulo M.A., Rivetti A., Lucino C.V., Liscia S.O. (2022) for the paper entitled “Anti vortex device to operate pump intakes below the minimum submergence”

• Jaiswal A., Ahmad Z., Mishra S.K. (2022) for the paper entitled “Effect of Diameter and Inlet-depth on Hydro-suction performance of a Suction pipe”
