Journal of Hydraulic Research | Vol. 59. Issue 6, 2021

The Journal of Hydraulic Research (JHR) publishes research papers in theoretical, experimental and computational hydraulics and fluid mechanics, relating to rivers, lakes, estuaries, coasts, constructed waterways, and some internal flows such as pipe flows. To reflect current trends in water research, articles that explore outcomes of interdisciplinary hydro-environment studies with a strong fluid mechanical component are especially welcome. Although preference is given to fundamental issues, papers focusing on important unconventional or emerging applications of broad interest are also appreciated.

 Overview

JHR 6.png

This issue begins with three papers that highlight the usefulness of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) modelling as a tool for conducting simulations in both academia and industry. One article explores SPH modelling of free surface flows, a second study examines how the tool is effective in modelling plunging jets, and a third article looks at how an SPH simulation sheds light on the 2007 Chehalis Lake landslide and subsequent tsunami. The remaining papers focus on theoretical and experimental investigations that are relevant to stratified flow, vortical motion, open channel flow, hydraulic jumps, scour, and entrapped air in closed conduits.
