Abstract: Maintenance of navigational routes is a recurrent problem along the alluvial floodplain rivers in Bangladesh. Every year huge volume of dredging is required to keep the navigational channels in operation. At some specific reaches, bandals are used to solve the above problem. Issues related to the use of dredging or bandals for the maintenance of navigational channels are addressed. The features of the future field research program in order to develop sustainable solution to the navigational routes in alluvial floodplain rivers of Bangladesh are also discussed.
