The IAHR recognised strong original research and outstanding reviews of papers published in the IAHR Journal of Hydraulic Research by conferring the following IAHR awards on 24 August 2023 during the Gala Dinner of the 40th IAHR World Congress in Vienna, Austria.

IAHR Harold Jan Schoemaker Award

Established in 1980 to honour the memory of Prof. Schoemaker, the Harold Jan Schoemaker Award is granted to the author(s) of the paper judged the most outstanding paper published in the IAHR Journal of Hydraulic Research in the two years preceding the IAHR World Congress.

IAHR conferred its 23rd Harold Jan Schoemaker Award to Umair Ahmed, David Apsley, Timothy Stallard, Peter Stansby and Imran Afgan for their paper Turbulent length scales and budgets of Reynolds stress-transport for open-channel flows; friction Reynolds numbers Reτ = 150, 400 and 1020, published in the Journal of Hydraulic Research, 59(1), 36-50.

Umair Ahmed and Imran Afgan receive the 23rd Harold Jan Schoemaker Award from Prof. Mohamed S. Ghidaoui, and IAHR President Prof. Joseph Hun-Wei Lee.

Willi H. Hager JHR Best Reviewer Award

Established in 2012 and sponsored by former JHR Editor Professor Willi H. Hager, the Willi H. Hager JHR Best Reviewer Award is presented to up to three reviewers, preferably under 45 years of age, judged to have provided the most outstanding reviews of the papers submitted to the IAHR Journal of Hydraulic Research during the preceding two-year period. 

IAHR conferred its 8th Willi H. Hager JHR Best Reviewer Award to Dr Daniel B. Bung, Dr Tong-Chuan Che and Dr Talia Tokyay for authoring the most outstanding reviews of the papers submitted to the IAHR Journal of Hydraulic Research during the period 2021-2022.

Dr Daniel B. Bung and Dr Tong-Chuan Che receive the 8th Willi H. Hager JHR Best Reviewer Award from Prof. Willi Hager and IAHR President Prof. Joseph Hun-Wei Lee.
