IAHR took part in the 50th anniversary celebration of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. This milestone event brought together global leaders in water science and education to reflect on five decades of hydrological progress and cooperation.

During the ceremony, IAHR delivered two certificates of the IAHR Label for Water Training and Education to the recently awarded institutions: the Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), China.

IAHR President, Philipe Gourbesville, and IAHR Executive Director, Tom Soo, were present at the event to personally deliver the certificates and highlight the value of the IAHR Label initiative. Launched in 2024, the IAHR Label aims to identify and endorse educational programmes that meet high standards of quality, relevance, and international scope in the water field.

With the new universities awarded, there are now seven programmes in the labelled programmes directory.

As part of its contribution to the celebration, IAHR also participated in the commemorative UNESCO-IHP 50th anniversary coffee table book, sharing the vision and early impact of the Label in strengthening global water capacity through high-quality training and education.

The IAHR Label is open for new applications. Institutions offering outstanding water-related educational programmes are encouraged to apply.
